Chinese Herbal Medicine
Book an AppointmentLike acupuncture, herbal medicine has been used safely for thousands of years in China, and by billions of people worldwide! North Vancouver Pain Clinic utilizes Chinese herbal medicine in some cases. Acupuncture tends to have a more direct effect on the level of the meridians, whereas herbal medicine works more at the level of the organs.
Chinese herbal medicine is a very potent therapy, and when used in combination with acupuncture it can prolong the effects of the acupuncture treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine also uses Chinese herbs as a stand-alone treatment modality. In general, herbal medicine can be used in combination with most Western medications, though to ensure safety they should only be prescribed by a professional, competent practitioner that is a registrant of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC (www.ctcma.bc.ca).
For convenience, safety, and quality reasons, we use only herbal granules (not raw herbs) that have been screened for heavy metals, moulds, and other contaminants, and are of the highest available quality. The herbs are available in powdered form (sachets), capsules, and tablets. We do not use nor condone the use of endangered animal products of any kind.
